But I am so impressed at the way you wrote your opinion.....no name calling just an honest opinion about the 'in your face' .... 'over the top' performance that we see over and over again from some of the pop stars of today.Like you,I find David and the way he represents himself and his music, to be so refreshing . David is 'just David' ...no gimmicks, no tricks, no in your face smut. He is entertaining because he has the voice and presence of a true and gifted performer. He doesn't need to be 'over the top' to entertain us!I truly believe that David Archuleta will be around for a long time because he is so talented. All he needs to prove himself, is his voice and his down to earth presence. What you see is what you get with David Archuleta and it is is real and pure and something that everyone can enjoy! With David, you get family entertainment that the censors don't need to worry about!! Too bad so many others don't follow David's lead! ;)

Wonderful article and all you stated is so true. I did not watch the AMAs on Sunday; however, I did catch a glimpse of a promo for the show Friday or Saturday evening. What was supposed to lure me was instead a turn off. I had no intention of watching it anyway. With the exception of the Tony Awards, I generally despise these types of programs and can only be enticed to watch if David will be mentioned or make an appearance.Unfortunately, the ratings for this year's AMAs were the highest they have been in 7 years. Also up were the number of complaints regarding the vulgarity and lewdness paraded about on stage. There are those in our society who find such displays of indecency entertaining. The problem for these folks is that this type of "entertainment" will need to escalate and get more and more provocative in order to hold their attention.Happily, not all of us succumb to the bait. Not because we are prudes, but because something deep within our spirits tells us it is harmful. The great film director Alfred Hitchcock once said that understatement is far sexier than an in-your-face display (or something to that effect), and he's right. Some of my favorites films are Hitchcock films, including "Vertigo" and" Rear Window." Even the famous shower scene in "Psycho" calls upon us to use our imagination, eschewing a graphic display of violence. The huge proliferation in the number of channels is testament to the fact that television executives are desperate to get their share of the viewing audience. Don't they realize that fewer channels and fewer shows would suffice if they produced quality programming? Instead, they keep slicing the pie into smaller and smaller pieces, and nearly every slice is as banal as the last. What to do? Avoid the garbage and support the few precious gems that come along from time to time. Hey, that's what we've been doing now for over a year, and it feels good!

Bravo, pikepss for voicing what so many of think and feel. I channel-surfed a lot and only went back to AMA to catch Whitney Houston. (I am very supportive of her come-back.) Bad behaviour gets great ratings, I suppose. Such a shame!'We, the People' own the public airways. The time is overdue for us to speak out. Even "Entertainment Tonight" focuses too much on trash TV, instead of real talent. I don't even watch it anymore.

There were several “entertainment acts” at the AMA that had me cringing.
