Kathryn, I too had an interesting experience with “Crush” last week. I was on vacation with my family and not near any computers or i-pods, we were away for the first time in awhile as a family and promised to focus on all things family related….no distractions! Well one day my daughter and I went shopping. She put on the radio in the car , and I reminded her that I had not been able to see or hear anything from David in a few days , I was feeling so out of touch. I have listened to David’s music everyday since American Idol. She laughed because she knows about my fondness for David and his music. She knew it was something I was missing!

When we got to the store within five minutes we heard “Crush” begin to play on the store’s radio. We both looked at each other in amazement and smiled! It was as if someone heard me and so they were giving me my wish!! Coincidence or not , it was so good to hear David’s voice singing for the whole store to hear. I loved it!

The magic continued on with the filming of his first solo music video. As I watched the video again, I was struck by its beautiful simplicity, and how in keeping with the song, both musically and lyrically, it is. It’s astonishing when you consider that it was filmed in one day, with actors David had never met before, including his “crush,” between stops on the Idol concert tour.

After a year of listening to the song countless times and multiple viewings of the video, “Crush” remains as fresh to me as ever. Classics in every artistic field have this quality, be they novels, paintings, sculpture, or music. David’s recording of this song will enter the annals of classic popular music, and David will join the ranks of recording artists such as Sinatra, Wonder, and McCartney.
