Amazon pre-orders are usually shipped quicker than regular purchases, sometimes even before the release date. Bookstores of the brick and mortar variety must not stock their shelves with a new book until Release Date. Online vendors often have a special agreement which allows them to ship items a reasonable amount of time PRIOR to the release date so that the customer receives the item on or after the release date. 

So, if you plan to attend the June 1 book signing in New Jersey, there is a good chance you &lt;em&gt;will&lt;/em&gt; have received your copy. If not, you could purchase it at the bookstore for David to sign. Then you could return the Amazon book after it arrives.
