My Dinner with David

17 February 2009

Mood:

It was a rainy cold evening and walking into the private dining room my heart jumped a beat as I noticed the room was set for 18 people, intimate and cozy.  There were stacks of books around the room as if it were a Regal Palace , so appropriate , as the Prince of Pop was soon to arrive.  Within a few minutes guests arrived one by one and took their seats and introduced themselves.  There was a slight nervous anticipation in the room while we waited for David and his parents.  Then softly we heard footsteps and a quiet laugh and the guest of honor appeared.  David was charming as usual and his parents were very pleased to see us.  Numerous conversations continued through dinner with many questions about his tour, writing, music and his new band.  David also mentioned how excited he was about his Pro Bowl trip to Hawaii and he said he would love to go back with his family and see more of the islands.  I mentioned Maui was beautiful and he said he would love to see it.

With his busy schedule David seemed somewhat tired and we were told that after dinner he still needed to do more rehearsing with his band.  Dinner was served and we all enjoyed watching David and his reaction to many of the courses.  At one point he wanted to know why it was good to eat garlic.  I told him in jest, it was to keep Vampires away and he thought that was funny.

After dinner it was time for everyone to have their pictures taken with him and receive their personal autographed CD.  When it came for my turn, I hugged him and said Thank You and reminded him I met him in Kansas City.  He then turned and said to me “Tulsa too”, and I said yes with a big smile, as I was amazed he would remember.  The evening drew to a conclusion and I was quietly contented but sad as the same time.  Would I ever get another meeting with David again?  Who knows, but this one will live in my memory for a lifetime!

Thanks for writing about your extraordinary dinner with David. What a wonderful experience! I’m not sure I’d be able to eat. Did David have a good appetite? I’m not surprised to hear that he was tired. It has been nonstop for him for quite a while. And now he has to prepare for his solo tour. Did you take your own photo with him, or was a photographer there?

    pikepss,
Thank you for sharing your story. Part of me is jealous and part of me is glad I wasn’t there because I would have been too nervous and not be able to utter a coherent sentence. It sounds like everybody had fun.
