valentine heart graphicWho was Saint Valentine? We will probably never know for certain, but there was a Christian priest in 3rd century Rome who angered Emperor Claudius II by performing secret marriages. The Emperor needed single men to fight in his armies. The priest was arrested and condemned to death. Legend has it that Valentine sent a friend, the jailer’s daughter, a note signed “From Your Valentine” before he was executed on February 14 in 270 A.D. More than two centuries later, in 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius named February 14 in honor of Saint Valentine. Most people today know him as the Patron Saint of couples, happy marriages, and love.

But did you know that St. Valentine is also the Patron Saint of bee keepers!? Maybe that is why ‘honey’ is a term of endearment, as in, “Honey, won’t you be my Valentine?”

Happy Valentine’s Day, Honeybees!

Happy Valentine's DayTo celebrate today, I’ve decorated DA Buzzing in hearts, flowers, and red and pink colors. I created some of the graphics myself, but the best ones are from Full Moon Graphics. I’m sure you can tell which ones! Hope you enjoy Valentine’s Day.
