Donny OsmondSinger, dancer and Las Vegas performer Donny Osmond will now ride his entertainment wave into the radio world. He will be the host of a new syndicated radio show starting Jan. 18. It will air on some 60 U.S. radio stations, including KBEE (FM-98.7) locally. However, his show won’t cost any radio host their job in Salt Lake City.

“It will not impact the employment of any Citadel S.L. employee,” Eric Hauenstein, general manager of Salt Lake’s Citadel radio stations, stressed.

He said he might shorten some local personalities’ on-air shifts to accommodate Osmond’s show, but that will be the extent of it.

This new program, “The Donny Osmond Show,” will be a five-hour, lifestyle-driven music radio show, slanted to females and produced by Citadel Media.

Hauenstein also cautioned that because of programming issues, KBEE may or may not be able to air Osmond’s first several shows.

“We will make it then (Jan. 18), or in a few days after,” Hauenstein said.

Nationally, the show will air weekdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Eastern time.

Hauenstein said it is still unclear when the show would air each weekday on KBEE.

“I’m so excited to have this show,” he said, noting that Marie Osmond had a radio show, also on KBEE, about five years ago.

“The Osmond show in Vegas is such a huge hit,” Hauenstein said. “Donny’s riding the wave.…He’s such a polished pro.”

He said Osmond’s show has been at least six months in the making, and he predicts it will be a big hit. And, although no other non-Citadel stations in the Salt Lake market can air the new show, he expects a station in St. George and some others elsewhere in Utah — Osmond’s home state — to eventually carry it.

The show is designed for both adult contemporary and classic hits radio formats.

“Our team is extremely proud to be part of introducing ‘The Donny Osmond Show’ to radio listeners in the new year,” Mike McVay, president of McVay Syndication, said in a press release. “Donny is such a relatable, natural personality and has historically drawn the interest of a wide-ranging audience. His recent popularity and success on Dancing With the Stars has reminded all of us what a dynamic performer he is and charmed a new generation of fans as well.”

Great interview about David Archuleta in Guatemala – The English translation is a little broken but you will find them thoroughly enjoyable.  It’s a glowing review about our David.

EpicDemia. I know it seems odd to see an article by a pop star here in EpicDemia. música. The truth is that we have spent much of the niche of heavy metal in recent months, but that does not mean that we are not open to appreciate all branches of music. If you look in our library, you’ll see that we have covered earlier artists from other genres. Anyway, last night we had the opportunity to live with one of the most talented pop stars of our time: David Archuleta.

For if you are one of the few who do not know, David Archuleta achieved fame by being second in American Idol, in 2008. After that, his fame grew exponentially. The first single from his album David Archuleta, entitled “Crush,” reached second place in Billboard. What is so impressive about this is that the young man barely 19 years of age is now not only has a voice that would embarrass the 90% of the current singers, but does so after having suffered partial paralysis in the vocal cords.

Archuleta is on a tour with his mother, Lupe, to reach out to poor communities in America. In Guatemala came through Mentors organization, dedicated to helping small entrepreneurs to take their businesses forward.

We had a chance to be in a small press conference with David Archuleta, in which it expressed several interesting points:

1. His message to young people is that they should always strive to move forward with their dreams and never being discouraged by the conditions under which they live.

2. As for his book Chords of Strength (Strings of Power) tells us that the reason for writing is to be a guide for young people to tell their experience, especially what you learned to have suffered vocal cord paralysis some years ago. It further attempts to encourage them to move on, to show how one can overcome adversity and succeed in what you propose.

3. He said the reason he sings is that this is the best way he knows how to express himself. He will be a positive influence for young people, and he feels there are too many negative songs with lyrics that leave nothing good, and that his intention is to provide good music that makes people feel good and that does not carry negative messages.

The most impressive of the presentation was that David Archuleta sang a cappella for the media and we all realized the caliber of artist we had in front of us.

David Archuleta, with his namesake: I, David Morales.

After that, we were taken to a room that was a kind of chatter, mixed with music. I should mention that all this took place in a chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that David did not charge for their presence. In fact nobody had to pay to be at the meeting. The nature of the act was a little spiritual, so most of the songs were hymns selected by David Archuleta. The only exceptions were a piano presentation with the song “Angels” and another check for his mother “Mi Tierra”. Interestingly, he sang hymns in Spanish, despite having some difficulty speaking the language.

It is interesting to see how the youth has not been perverted, despite having some time in the world of entertainment. Even admitted to being nervous several times during the night. No arrogance on his face looks, or how it is expressed. Moreover, during the press conference sought support from his mother when he was nervous. Do not know about you, but I’m used to artists who believe that fame gives them a superior status, and saw this star still has respect for his mother realized he was onto someone else.

Part of the conference. We can see sorry, trying to speak Spanish. twitter. Meanwhile, I have fought for the fund to date their fans on twitter.

Most strikingly, the day was not music, but when David had to speak. A member of the congregation of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), so that their main purpose was to God and his certainty that His Gospel is true, and how this has helped him in his life. Whether you believe in God or not, I assure you that when you listen to feel a sort of peace and tranquility. Not that he is the best orator in the world, in fact tends to wander a lot, but his fervent belief in what they believe and desire to do everything possible to help others without seeking recognition is something to behold.

When I knew I was going to cover a story of David Archuleta, I thought I would be talking about his musical performances and powerful voice. Read what I’ve written and I realize that was not being much about it, but rather the impression I left as a human being. The success and fame have already met many artists, but what David Archuleta is the human being is something different, then has a genuine kindness, that of not seeing him in person could not understand. It is more inspired at the end of this event than anything else. That’s something I cannot say about another artist.

Updated: ChiChi has kindly sent me the video that took a cappella interpretations of David with members of the press. Note that I cannot upload it on YouTube because we were told that the material was unique to the present there. Click on the video and wait for download. You need Quicktime to view.

Q&A: David Archuleta of ‘American Idol’ | Billboard.com

As the ninth season of American Idol gets underway, let’s review Fred Bronson’s interview with David Archuleta for Billboard.com. It was an extensive interview with the Top Four in May 2008: Syesha Mercado, David Cook, Jason Castro, and David Archuleta.

Bronson: When I met your father a couple of months ago, he said you were very interested in my Billboard chart books.

Archuleta: I found a lot of songs [for “American Idol”] that way, a lot of songs I hadn’t heard before. I didn’t even know “One Sweet Day” until I saw it in that book. It was No. 1 for 16 weeks. Those are very influential books to me. My friends would come over and we’d look through the books. People thought I was weird to know so much.

It isn’t surprising that David had not heard “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey. He was not yet five years old when, on October 3, 1995, the song was released on Carey’s album Daydream. She wanted to expand beyond the pure pop sound of her previous recordings and incorporate genres, such as R&B, hip-hop and rap. Although her record label, Columbia, did not initially agree, Carey had her way and enjoyed much critical acclaim and success. Daydream is one of the first sixty-two albums to have achieved the new diamond status.

Back to Bronson’s Billboard interview with David Archuleta.

Bronson: Neil Diamond called you a prodigy and a lot of people think you have an incredible gift for music. How does that feel?

Archuleta: I still feel weird when people say, “you’re a good singer,” because I’ve never looked at myself like that. I’ve always looked at myself as someone who loves music and loves to try and interpret it as I see it.

This comment gives me hope that David will have the courage of Mariah Carey when making decisions about his musical career. As we fans know all too well, in a live performance David has no problem interpreting a song as he sees it. Whenever he is asked about his second pop album, currently in development, he never fails to say he wants it to express his diverse musical interests.

One Sweet Day David Archuleta will produce a diamond album which will, on another sweet day, be entered into the chart books written by Fred Bronson.

Now I think it’s time to hear the song David might have sung on American Idol.

“One Sweet Day” credits:

  • recorded by American singer Mariah Carey and quartet Boyz II Men
  • written by Carey, Walter Afanasieff and Boyz II Men members Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, Nathan Morris, and Michael McCary
  • produced by Carey and Afanasieff for Carey’s sixth album Daydream

David Archuleta Teen Idol

13 January 2010

Another great picture of David Archuleta and Rick Springfield has popped up from the People Magazine Photo Shoot.  It seems a lot of attention has been given by several older Teen Idols on David’s popularity and talent.  Just the other day Frankie Avalon was asked to comment on who he felt comes close to the teen idol status he had and said, “I like David Archuleta, I just saw him on a video the other day.  He’s doing a lot of good stuff.”

Paul Anka a few months ago also commented on how he would love David Archuleta to appear as him in a theatrical production he is writing.  As many of you remember, Anka was quite popular and was very young when he started in the music business.

If you notice to the far right you’ll see a picture of another Teen Idol, Elvis Presley.  As David signed the Ice Cream Truck (Rock Star) Hall of Fame Wall in Anaheim after his concert on December 2, 2009, it brought back all those memories as a teen listening to the “dreamboats,” as we called them, on our transistor radios and our 45s, and waiting for American Bandstand every week.

The creation of idols has always depended on chemistry and hormones, a notoriously unpredictable mix.  But the men and women in the business, the people who know all those facts, say that forces larger than adolescent desire are at work.

“In the history of teen idoldom, starting from Frank Sinatra and the Beatles, the teen idols who have become real icons have all been musical,” said Randi Reisfeld, the editor of Sixteen magazine. “These days,” she said, “music has become so polarized, it’s hard because there aren’t that many outlets for the type of music traditionally associated with teen idols—accessible music, with a pop sound…It’s hard to get your stuff played on the radio.”  The internet with itunes gives our teens an outlet, and live concerts are more accessible to the preteen than ever before.

As much as I dislike American Idol, it has given many teenagers the opportunity to pick and choose and cast their vote for their particular “dreamboat”.   It gives the preteen the opportunity to enjoy their idols that we shared on many teen dance shows years ago.

David Archuleta is the ultimate prize package as a teen idol; not only does he have the looks, character, soul, personality, he quite frankly has the best singing voice of all the teen idols I can remember, then and now.  The buzz around him is not just us Honeybees, but it is large media attention that is finally recognizing his talent.

AOL Radio Top 10 ‘American Idol’ Songs

12 January 2010

Respond

Today AOL Radio Blog announced its Top 10 American Idol songs from the past eight seasons of the Fox show. The Top 10 were successful on the airwaves and rated by AOL Radio listeners.

Number 1 is “Crush” by David Archuleta. Congratulations, David!

David Archuleta single, "Crush" cover artWrites Boonsri Dikinson, “The seventh season runner-up finished strong, receiving 44 percent of the 97 million votes. But it’s not surprising ‘Crush’ was such a hit (and our No.1 ‘American Idol’ song) — Jackson said Archuleta could “sing the phone book” and it would still sound great. Growing up in the ‘American Idol’ generation, he became one of the youngest contestants to participate in the show. To keep better tabs on him, check out his frequent tweets.”

When “Crush” was released in 2008, Chuck Taylor at Billboard had this to say on August 20: “It’s not a stretch to suggest that Sony chief (and former Jive prez) Barry Weiss saved the “American Idol” franchise from top 40 radio demise. Instead of trying to overcontemporize the pageant’s pop finalists with ill-fitting R&B production (read: Katharine McPhee), he has carefully aligned acts with material that matches (read: Jordin Sparks). So the prognosis is aces for the launch of season-seven runner-up David Archuleta. “Crush” is a hummable, age-appropriate midtempo pop ditty for the 17-year-old, showcasing his fine mass-appeal vocal stylings with creamy harmonies and some nice falsetto effects. The track is produced by millennium wiz Emanuel Kiriakou, who has worked with Sparks, Jesse McCartney, Celine Dion and Nick Lachey. “AI” has shown renewed radio potency thanks to such super-caliber artists as Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood—along with the democratizing of the consumer vote, via iTunes. “Crush” is likely to put its money where its title is on the charts.”

And from Fred Bronson at Billboard in August 2008:

“So it’s nice to report that the artist who earns Hot Shot Debut honors on this week’s Hot 100 has an obsession with the charts. More accurately, and at the risk of self-aggrandizing, he [David Archuleta] is obsessed with my Billboard chart books. With his new single entering at No. 2, he has assured himself a place in the next edition of “Billboard’s Hottest Hot 100 Hits,” even if he has to wait a few years to see his current single listed among the top 5000 songs of the rock era.”
