Singing “How Great Thou Art”, David’s soulful, reverent voice is beautiful. The powerful ending brings tears of joy. This is one of my favorite hymns. Thank you, David!

David Archuleta to Tour with Left-handed Piano

1 April 2009

Entertainment reporter, L.A. Times

According to Azoff Management, David Archuleta will tour Asia and the United Kingdom with a left-handed piano, one of the first of its kind.

The piano is made by Cristofori, the Italian makers of the first modern piano. The treble register begins at the left-hand side and ends with the bass register at the right, a perfect construction for a left-handed player like Archuleta. Since it is a fortepiano, it is light enough to be transported easily.

Built with solid wood frames, two strings per note, and Honduran leather-covered hammers, the piano’s keys are the opposite coloring of most modern-day pianos: the natural keys are black and the accidental keys are white.

The extended keyboard has 97 keys instead of the usual 88, enabling the pianist to increase range and harmonics. To avoid visual distraction, the extra keys can be covered by closing a small hinged lid over them. Because these keys vibrate sympathetically with other strings whenever the damper pedal is depressed, they produce a richer, fuller tone well suited to Archuleta’s blues-infused pop vocals.

For several weeks Archuleta has been rehearsing on the new piano, studying the Mayorgan left-handed technique. Musical scores and keyboard fingering do not change; the only change is that the treble clef is played with the left hand. For this reason, the piano will be placed on the stage so that Archuleta’s left hand — and the piano’s lid — face the audience. Archuleta will enter from stage left.

Jive Records tells Recording Artists magazine that tour promoters are excited about this unique opportunity to showcase Archuleta’s piano-playing as well as his hit-making vocal talent.

Has anyone heard about this appearance? I am trying to get pre-sale tickets tonight and the code from David’s website was “crush” which is not working. Tomorrow they go on sale to the public so if anyone knows the internet presale code let me know. Also, David Cook and Kelly C will be appearing there on different days. Thanks!

Reno concert

This is the fourth time I’ve seen David LIVE! Each time I experience a post-traumatic disorder that can only be described as ODD. For weeks afterward, I hear David’s voice in my head and dream of the next concert. The Reno concert was, of course, the first time he was a headliner. It was very special to be part of the audience.

The set started when David literally ran onto the stage and began singing.

1. “Touch my Hand” a great way to meet & greet the audience as he touches hands of the front row fans.

2. “Barriers” flexes his arm muscle as he sings “Our love’s burnin’ down, Creepin’ in the doubt, we’re not gettin’ any stronger.”

3. “ALTNOY”, co-written by David, Mike Krompass and others, another major hit!

4. “Somebody out There” with Mike K on guitar, co-written by David and Mike, one of my favs

5. “My Hands” a gorgeous cappella ending

6. “Works for Me!” David says it’s a song about his personal life and how things have worked out for him. I LOVE WFM!

7. “Waiting for Yesterday” I LOVE WFY too!

8. Medley of four of his favs: U2’s “One,” Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be,” Sarah Bareilles’ “Love Song” and Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.”

9. “To Be with You” with David on keyboard and Kendra on violin and backup vocals, hauntingly beautiful

10. “Como La Flor”, Spanish song by Selena (a cappella), with his mom Lupe and aunts in the audience

11. “Don’t Let Go”, co-written by David and sung with great passion

12. “Zero Gravity”, a huge HIT and crowd favorite and one David really enjoys as much as the audience, co-written by David and Mike

13. “You Can”, a favorite forever, simply beautiful

14. “Crush” ending the concert with his signature song and his first Platinum Record.

Encore — The band departed. In a few minutes David returned alone to sit at the keyboard and sing:

15. “A Thousand Miles”, probably the best piano playing of this song that I’ve heard him perform

16. “Angels”, his heart clearly in this meaningful song; and “down the waterfall”, I go!

In Wales St. David’s Day is celebrated on March 1. People wear daffodils on his feast day. When David rose to address a great crowd in Ceredigion, the ground rose under his feet forming a little hill so that all could hear him. Doesn’t this remind you of David in concert?!
