The Song of the Week

Songs It is a lazy Sunday evening and I need something to get me motivated to begin my Monday. There is a very catchy song on David’s self-titled debut album that I have always loved. It has a beat and a rhythm that makes you want to get up and dance. It is funky and fun, exactly what I will need to help myself get out of bed when that alarm goes off and the start of my week begins. This catchy song is one of only a few songs that I have not had the pleasure of hearing David sing “live”. But oh how I would love to!

Recently, when David went back out on tour with Demi Lovato, he performed this song to the delight of many of his fans. Not only do I love this song because of its upbeat sound, but it shows off another one of David’s skills—his ability to whistle! By now, you should have guessed it.

The Song of the Week is…

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie”

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie” was written and produced by Antonina Armata, Tim James and Devrim Karaoğlu (co-producer). It appears on David’s self-titled debut album which was released in November 2008. It is about having a love that has never really died and knowing that the one you lost still wants to be with you—because their eyes give them away! It is a song that David sings with some attitude, very different from what we are used to from our humble singer. But David sings it with emotion and so much conviction that you really believe he has this love somewhere out there.

Now for your listening pleasure, “Your Eyes Don’t Lie”:

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie”
by David Archuleta

[whistling]
I saw you yesterday,
It’s been a while
You tried but failed
At holdin’ back your smile, right then
It’s not over yet, I knew, for you

(You see)
I couldn’t sleep
I thought of nothin’ else
I needed help
Everyone was tellin’ me
You were movin’ on with someone else
But what we had was so special
People can be jealous, oh
I had to see it for myself

I can see it in your eyes
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
[whistling]

I know I hurt you,
I know you’re hurtin’ still (mmm, yeah)
But I’ll make it up to you
Yeah, baby, I will
‘Cause what we had was so special
You know we can’t give it up
Now that I’m lookin’ at you, I can see

I can see it in your eyes (your eyes)
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way (there is no way) the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
And they never will, girl

Oh, now that I know
We were apart but your heart never let go
So thank you for showin’ me with one look
What used to be, and still is, a possibility

I can see it in your eyes (you still love me)
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
Your eyes don’t lie
[whistling]

This is a video of David singing “Your Eyes Don’t Lie” in Providence, RI on October 30th. Sadly, this was the concert that I was supposed to go to in August, but when it was rescheduled, I couldn’t make it. Watch as David interacts with his audience; he really commands the stage. He has become such a wonderful show man, very charming! The song sounds better than ever and I love the way he ‘wets his whistle’ at the very end.

Happy Monday, everyone! 😉

Take care,
Katie

I remember when his album came out last year this was the song all my employees wanted me to play over and over again. They loved this one the most, when asked why they said they love the way he whistles! Well so do I and his audience connection when he performs in concert. Thanks for bringing back great memories of the first few times I listened to this great song!

I also love this song and thought it should have been a single. Well, honestly, I thought a lot of his songs on the first album should have been released as singles. I sure wish I understood the record business a little more and why radio stations play trash when they could play real music.
