Archuleta says he used to be called ‘smiley boy’ in high school.

MANILA, Philippines – Even American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta had his own share of name-calling in high school. “When I was in school, people used to call me smiley boy,” Archuleta said Friday during Magic 89.9’s radio show.

The 18-year-old singer-songwriter said his classmates thought it was too weird how he could always smile. “They’re like, it’s so creepy you smile so much,” he said. His smile, however, earned him a 2008 Teen Choice Award for Best Smile and the adoration of legions of fans…When he was asked what makes him smile, the American crooner just answered “I dunno. I don’t know, there’s just a lot to be happy about I guess,” he said.

And he definitely has a lot to be happy about – an international career, a great following, and a chart-topping self-titled debut album.

Archuleta added that he’s probably just a positive person. “I’m just trying to look at the brighter side of things, just trying to see the positive things in life,” he said.

Our Honeybee Katie, AKA bigarchiefan, has written an inspiring article about David’s eyes. Read it here: David’s Eyes: the Window to his Soul As you can tell by my own avatar, David’s eyes have always intrigued me. In photos they are the first thing one notices. When you see David in person, sometimes the eyes are everything you see. His eyes, and the way he uses them to engage each person, express the true heart and soul of a gifted artist, a compassionate human being, and an ‘old soul’. Thanks, Katie, for putting the focus on those eyes!

What an inspiring story by Carla! It was written in March, but I’ve just now found it — haha. Read it here: Dream Fulfilled

Jeff told Michael that David’s music goes beyond the physical and that “you can take it with you”.

I know exactly what Jeff means. For several days, David’s voice singing “When You Believe” has been playing in my head. I hear it loud and clear. It is just like praying.

Great song title of yesteryear, but so approprate for last night.  Anytime David lands in Los Angeles  the earth moves for me!  His sweet and genuine concern for all of us was adorable.  And has he ever been in an earthquake? He is not sure, but his homecoming highlighted this one!  Welcome Home David Archuleta and may my earth move everytime you sing!!!!

OMG I am ‘jest’ sitting here laughing my head off. Could you picture David being arrested in Manila? Ok, here goes.
50,000 fans are all outside the police station, and David locked up and standing at his window, the fans are yelling David David. David is at the window jumping up and down and waving and singing “Stand by me”. lol

The Davids in Manila

I have been watching the latest videos of David Archuleta performing in Manila. Honestly, he just amazes and astounds me over and over again. The list of songs included many from his self titled debut album, but he also sang an old AI favorite “Stand By Me” and I must say, it sounded better than ever. David has really grown as an artist and it is so exciting watching him.

My favorite moment came when David joined David Cook on stage to accompany him on a song that Cook wrote for his recenty deceased brother, Adam. The song titled “A Daily AntheM” was really special. Cook introduced David to the stage and the two sang together. David supporting his friend Cook, was really something to behold. When the song was over, the two friends walked off stage. They embraced and Cook put his arm around David’s shoulder. They really are like brothers themselves, and I am sure it meant so much to Cook to have David supporting him though this rough time, since his brother’s passing.

Both Davids left quite a mark on the Phillipines. They have become international superstars. But more even more , they show the importance of friendship. No matter who won idol last season, they are equals. Both standing together, headlining a very large venue. It was wonderful to watch. Wish I could have been there!

Take care all,
Katie
