Today CNN.com’s Lisa Respers France published her telephone interview with David Archuleta. She asked him to talk about his debut holiday album, Christmas from the Heart and to explain what sets his apart from the many already available. David said, he “strived to produce a reverent album of Christmas music.” He could have gone the pop route, but deliberately chose to make his first holiday album about the true meaning of Christmas.

Type Bee: Giving Thanks

The holiday season is around the bend, over the river, and through the woods. Time for giving & receiving, being thankful, singing carols. Would that we people of Earth might spend every day in the holiday spirit! Forget war. Be kind. Trade more money for more time with our family. Remember our manners. It sounds so simple—and it is—but it does require a new perspective.

Thanks, Earth!

Earth-Apollo17

From the perspective of space, our home is a beautiful Blue Marble. This stunning photograph was taken by American astronauts during NASA’s Apollo 17 lunar mission in December 1972. What if every one of us could take a trip on a spaceship and look back at this amazing orb we call home? We would return to Earth fully prepared to celebrate Earth Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmastide, and New Year’s every day, year in and year out! We would be motivated to express our profound gratitude. As David Archuleta recently quoted from a Yogi Tea proverb, “An attitude of gratitude brings opportunity.” True gratefulness comes from knowledge and awareness of our humble existence.

NASA astronauts have written eloquently about their space travels. Here is what James Irwin wrote about seeing his home planet from space:

The Earth reminded us of a Christmas tree ornament hanging in the blackness of space. As we got farther and farther away it diminished in size. Finally it shrank to the size of a marble, the most beautiful marble you can imagine. That beautiful, warm, living object looked so fragile, so delicate, that if you touched it with a finger it would crumble and fall apart. Seeing this has to change a man, has to make a man appreciate the creation of God and the love of God.
– James Irwin, Lunar Module Pilot, Apollo 15

Thanks, David!

As we land safely back on Earth from our imaginary space trip, we find that many Earthlings have been listening to Christmas carols, even before Halloween. Has the world turned upside down!? Well, not exactly. Thanksgiving comes before Christmas this year, as with every year, but we fans of David Archuleta have been joyfully listening to Christmas songs from his debut holiday album. Christmas from the Heart is a collection of 13 songs, including familiar English, French, and Spanish carols, a couple of popular tunes, and an original song entitled “Melodies of Christmas.” From my wider perspective, it has seemed perfectly normal to be listening to “Ave Maria” and “O Come all Ye Faithful” in October! “An attitude of gratitude brings opportunity,” and we very grateful fans have used every opportunity to hear David sing these carols. And you can be sure we will gratefully fill many Christmas stockings with David’s holiday CD.

One of my favorite American Idol alums got down on one knee and proposed marriage on Halloween. What a gentleman! David Archuleta knows how to propose!

Oops! In my excitement, I misread the news item. On a more careful reading, I see that the nuptial news was posted on twitter by oklahomarock, with the caption, “American Idol contestant Jason Castro proposes to his girlfriend before an Oklahoma/Kansas State football game in Norman, Oklahoma on Halloween.”

The report also said the pair dressed as “Beauty and the Beast,” but he doesn’t look like a beast to me!

Love is in the air for Jason Castro! He recently premiered the music video of his single “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again.”

I wish Jason and Mandy a very happy life together.

The Song of the Week

9 November 2009

Songs It is a lazy Sunday evening and I need something to get me motivated to begin my Monday. There is a very catchy song on David’s self-titled debut album that I have always loved. It has a beat and a rhythm that makes you want to get up and dance. It is funky and fun, exactly what I will need to help myself get out of bed when that alarm goes off and the start of my week begins. This catchy song is one of only a few songs that I have not had the pleasure of hearing David sing “live”. But oh how I would love to!

Recently, when David went back out on tour with Demi Lovato, he performed this song to the delight of many of his fans. Not only do I love this song because of its upbeat sound, but it shows off another one of David’s skills—his ability to whistle! By now, you should have guessed it.

The Song of the Week is…

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie”

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie” was written and produced by Antonina Armata, Tim James and Devrim Karaoğlu (co-producer). It appears on David’s self-titled debut album which was released in November 2008. It is about having a love that has never really died and knowing that the one you lost still wants to be with you—because their eyes give them away! It is a song that David sings with some attitude, very different from what we are used to from our humble singer. But David sings it with emotion and so much conviction that you really believe he has this love somewhere out there.

Now for your listening pleasure, “Your Eyes Don’t Lie”:

“Your Eyes Don’t Lie”
by David Archuleta

[whistling]
I saw you yesterday,
It’s been a while
You tried but failed
At holdin’ back your smile, right then
It’s not over yet, I knew, for you

(You see)
I couldn’t sleep
I thought of nothin’ else
I needed help
Everyone was tellin’ me
You were movin’ on with someone else
But what we had was so special
People can be jealous, oh
I had to see it for myself

I can see it in your eyes
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
[whistling]

I know I hurt you,
I know you’re hurtin’ still (mmm, yeah)
But I’ll make it up to you
Yeah, baby, I will
‘Cause what we had was so special
You know we can’t give it up
Now that I’m lookin’ at you, I can see

I can see it in your eyes (your eyes)
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way (there is no way) the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
And they never will, girl

Oh, now that I know
We were apart but your heart never let go
So thank you for showin’ me with one look
What used to be, and still is, a possibility

I can see it in your eyes (you still love me)
You feel the same about us as I
There is no way the truth can be disguised
You’re still in love with me
You were never really out of love with me
Your eyes don’t lie
Your eyes don’t lie
[whistling]

This is a video of David singing “Your Eyes Don’t Lie” in Providence, RI on October 30th. Sadly, this was the concert that I was supposed to go to in August, but when it was rescheduled, I couldn’t make it. Watch as David interacts with his audience; he really commands the stage. He has become such a wonderful show man, very charming! The song sounds better than ever and I love the way he ‘wets his whistle’ at the very end.

Happy Monday, everyone! 😉

Take care,
Katie
