David and Bullseye together in one photo—a photographer’s dream or is it ours? Haven’t seen these photos floating around and thought they should be enjoyed by all.

David is ALL natural!!!!

David doesn’t have to use “smoke n’ mirrors” or magic potions to sell himself!!!  All he has to do is sing and people realize he’s the REAL DEAL!!!

This past week has been a GREAT one for David and for creating buzzzzzz!!!  His heart-stopping performance of “America The Beautiful” at the US Open sent chills through my body.  His rendition of “Contigo En La Distancia” at the ALMA’s was stunning and one of his best!!!  David has shown how he can master singing different genres and there’s no doubt he has gained many more fans because of it!!!

I am so thankful he has had the opportunity to record a Christmas CD!!!  With the upcoming release of  “Christmas From the Heart” he will continue to spread his sweet spirit!!  Hopefully all of the Honeybees have pre-ordered their copies and making sure EVERYONE on their Christmas list is getting one!!!  Can’t wait for Oct. 13th!!!!

What does David drink?

22 September 2009

David just tweeted he really had a craving for juice after running! He is limited in what he drinks as milk give him phlegm problems and he doesn’t drink coffee or tea unless it’s herbal tea. He is trying to stay away from sodas, so it looks like a lot of water and the juices he craves. What do you think? Pineapple juice, since he loves pineapple so much, orange juice, the variations in between?

He really seems to be working out with so much time off these past few days. He definitely will be really buffed and in great shape when he starts his Christmas concerts soon. By the way, has anyone heard when we will get those dates? I am all on pins and needles waiting to book those dates. Let’s hope it is soon!

Type Bee: The singing athlete

I enjoy all kinds of music—Classical, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Rock. Give me a song with lots of grace notes, glissandos and appoggiaturas and I’m in heaven. I enjoy complex, reflective music. At the same time, I know that the best music comes from the heart of the singer and sometimes ‘less is more’. Let’s take David Archuleta’s ALMA Awards rendition of “Contigo en la Distancia” and compare it to others. For further reference, you might also listen to David himself singing this song a few years ago.

The Sport of Singing

American Idol has been criticized for making a sport of singing. Its contestants are encouraged and rewarded for using many musical ornaments to out-sing one another. The AI singing athletes bring their own equipment to the game: trills, runs, bluesy slides, sustained notes, melisma, and high notes. Mariah Carey encouraged David Archuleta to use his falsetto, saying “I wouldn’t be mad at ya.”

Compare these three versions of “Contigo en la Distancia” and tell us which one you like the best and why.

The Gift to Be Simple

“Simple Gifts” was written by Elder Joseph while he was at the Shaker community in Alfred, Maine in 1848.

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come out right.

It has been nearly 41 years since Jose Feliciano sang “The Star Spangled Banner” at the World Series on October 7, 1968.

Buzz-phrase

melisma
Etymology: New Latin, from Greek, song, melody, from melizein to sing, from melos song * Date: circa 1880

1: a group of notes or tones sung on one syllable
2: melodic embellishment

Instead of using the word ‘melisma’ in a sentence, sing “Angels We Have Heard on High” which contains one of the most melismatic sequences in popular Christian music. How many notes can you sing on the letter o in the word “Gloria”?

Now make a beeline to last week’s “Type Bee”. Catch you next week! Now one final thought…

Buzz-phrase

To stop the flow of music would be like the stopping of time itself, incredible and inconceivable.

DA Honeybees and other David Archuleta fan sites have been helping to spread the word about a new charity auction which starts on October 1. Sherry Gilbert is working with Hearts and Hands, a group of Angels For A Cause fans, to promote the upcoming auction of a quilt throw and pillow. The handmade items were signed by David Archuleta; proceeds from the auction will go to Rising Star Outreach. The lovely quilt and pillow set is called “Gifts From The Heart” and features heart shapes on denim and plaid squares. See larger images by clicking on each thumbnail below.

On the YouTube video about this special charity auction, you’ll see more pictures of David as he signs the quilt.

Sherry Gilbert’s message:

IT STARTED WITH DAVID’S INSPIRATION

Many of David’s fans from across
The country put their time and
Devotion together to design and
create this quilted throw and pillow.

Our hope is it will encourage others
To use David’s inspiration to reach
Out and help others as David is doing.

The squares are symbolic of hearts
And hands working together.

The cuddly throw and pillow are
Symbolic of the warmth and love
David is spreading to people
Throughout the world.

Please help “save the day” for children suffering from this curable condition.
