Recently DA Honeybees and other David Archuleta fan sites were asked to help spread the word about a new charity auction. We are happy to do our part. Sherry Gilbert is working with Hearts and Hands, a group of Angels For A Cause fans, to promote the upcoming auction of a quilt throw and pillow. The handmade items were signed by David Archuleta; proceeds from the auction will go to Rising Star Outreach. The lovely quilt and pillow set is called “Gifts From The Heart” and features heart shapes on denim and plaid squares. See larger images by clicking on each thumbnail below.

Sherry Gilbert says, “I’ve been involved in charity work for various family members…so what propels me to want to help David Archuleta and honor him? Of course, there is his music and talent, but more than that, it is his genuine character and humble spirit that have been an inspiration….It’s a privilege to give back a little to help others, and at the same time to honor David, for he gives so much of his time and of himself.”

Sherry Gilbert’s press release below provides all the details. On the YouTube video about this special charity auction, you’ll see pictures of David as he signs the quilt.

During the seventh season of American Idol, people across the world came to know and love the beautiful voice and talent of 18 year old vocal artist David Archuleta. For the past year, Archuleta has traveled across the United States, into Canada, and overseas to Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, and the Philippines sharing his voice and music with his rapidly growing fan base.

When not performing on stage, David uses his voice and spirit for another purpose. He works diligently to raise awareness and encourage participation in charities to benefit others. David’s inspirational message and giving spirit have propelled many into positive action in support of his targeted charities. The organization “Angels For A Cause,” composed of David Archuleta fans, works cooperatively or in teams to achieve designated goals.

One of David’s identified charities, RISING STAR OUTREACH (RSO), works to improve the lives of individuals affected with leprosy in India. Funding is currently being sought to build and furnish a new school for the children in the colony for leprosy patients. Fueled by desire for RSO to reach its goal, a team of “Angels For A Cause” members called “Hearts & Hands” has worked to create something unique and special.

With contributions of supplies, embroidery, and construction efforts from team members nationwide, a David–inspired quilted throw and pillow have been lovingly created. The two pieces include hand embroidered, fan-chosen David Archuleta phrases. David autographed both items himself on August 8th, 2009. At this time, he expressed great appreciation for the efforts being made to benefit RSO. Both items, titled “Gifts From The Heart,” will be auctioned and will also include the soon-to-be-released David Archuleta Christmas album Christmas From The Heart (currently available by preorder on Amazon.com).

Bids for the items can be placed separately on e-bay.com from October 1st at 12 midnight ET through October 10th with the auction ending on October 10th, 2009 at 12 midnight ET.

ALL proceeds to benefit RSO.

Please help “save the day” for children suffering from this curable condition.

Interesting that David needs a stylist, he is pretty perfect already! I find it hard to believe she can improve his looks!! Can’t wait to see what happens! Maybe all the new television appearances for his promo of Christmas from the Heart warranted a new look! Was that a new look at the U.S. Open?

US Open Tennis

This is the cutest story so I must share it with all of you. A true fangirl moment!

A friends granddaughter (who is almost 11) came rushing into the kitchen all excited about her friend’s mom and dad’s trip to attend the Somona Valley Crush Weedkend! She wanted to know if we could take her to get a pass for the “Crush Weekend!”

After we laughed our heads off we explaned it wasn’t a David Archuleta concert it was a Wine Festival Event and it would not be possible for her to go.

But we did reassure her when David’s concerts are announced we would plan to take her as soon as we had a concert date here in California.

It seem anything associated with the word CRUSH is definately associated to David Archuleta! HaHa!!

Type Bee: Christmas in Davidland

It’s almost Christmas—in Davidland! On October 13 David Archuleta’s holiday album Christmas from the Heart will be playing throughout the land. ‘Tis the season. Time to carve the pumpkins, stew a cauldron of beef, and sew a spooky costume to wear. «Will you be an Angel, Archie, or Honeybee this year?» We’ll string lights in the topiary and light up the walkway with ghostly luminaries. And before you know it, it’s time to make cornucopias for the holiday table and roast the turkey. We’ll give thanks for all our blessings, especially for Christmas from the Heart. Then sitting by the fire on a brisk autumn night, visions of David dancing in our heads, we will lift up our voices to join him on the chorus.

And then before you know it, it’s December 25th! Happy Christmas to all!

Christmas from the Heart Vocal Exercises

The Christmas season begins early this year with the release of David Archuleta’s Christmas from the Heart. Are you ready to sing along with David? You know you’ll be humming and tapping your toes, wanting to join in. Let’s get our voices in shape for the holiday singing season. By the time Christmas from the Heart arrives, we’ll be prepared to sing Christmas by heart. A-Caroling we will go!

stickman-stretchThe Morning Stretch is a good all-around exercise for a singer. When your feet first hit the floor, lift up your arms and gently stretch toward the ceiling. Starting the day with a good stretch will energize you throughout the day.

stickman-touch-toesWhen you can touch your toes, greater flexibility will be your reward. Bend from the waist and slowly lower your back, stretching your fingers toward your toes. Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly lift up, raising the arms as you go. Done correctly, this exercise can reduce neck and shoulder tension.

stickman-kneebendsKneebends relax your body. This will open up your chest and diaphragm, giving your voice a richer tone. Take in a deep breath, filling your lungs to capacity, then exhale slowly.

stickman-earsClean out those ears. A singer must have good hearing. haha! Swimming is great exercise for a singer, but protect those ears, as well as nose and throat, from infections. Wear ear plugs.

stickman-breatheDeep breathing opens up your diaphragm, a system of muscles at your lower ribs that acts as an inhalation device. Take in a deep breath through your nose, filling your lungs to capacity, then slowly exhale through your mouth. You’ll feel your diaphragm expand with your lungs. This will help relax you before you begin vocal exercises and singing.

stickman-headstandStanding on your head strengthens the spine, neck, shoulders and arms. The headstand, one of the postures in yoga, also tones the muscular system of the abdomen and legs, helps with deep breathing, and creates healthier lung tissue.

stickman-runningRunning is great exercise for singers. It provides fresh oxygen to the entire body. Running develops heart-lung strength and endurance.

Since I am not a professional singer, athlete, or physical trainer, these “vocal exercises” are offered in fun. For serious, in-depth information, read this text article about vocal exercises or the HTML version.

Song of the Week

14 September 2009

Songs I am doing my best to get myself ready for Monday morning, but it has not been easy. Today was a beautiful, sunny day spent with family. It was so peaceful and relaxing, with no schedule and no demands. But alas…tomorrow is Monday, the beginning of a very busy work week. One that I am not looking forward to. What to do? Well, I do know of one thing that has helped to get me going in the past; it is one of David Archuleta’s songs. Tomorrow morning when I get up, I will play that song and it will get me moving. It will make me want to dance, sing and jump around. It will put a smile on my face and I know, as I am headed out the door, I will be humming it while I get ready to begin my busy week. This song has helped to give me the incentive I need to face the things that I am not always excited about doing—whether it is cleaning the house, running errands, or facing a Monday morning. Anything that takes motivation, David’s song has helped to get me started. Now I would like to share that song with all of you!

The Song of the Week is….

“Zero Gravity”

Because “Zero Gravity” never made it onto David’s debut album (though in my humble opinion, it should have), the only information I have about the song comes from David himself. He first performed the song in concert at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, VA, on February 25, 2009. Here is the video of that performance in which David talks about his song “Zero Gravity”. He co-wrote it with his guitar player, Mike Krompass.

Just for fun, I decided to include another version of “Zero Gravity” that was also performed in Virginia, but this one is six months after David’s first performance there. Watch as David jumps all around the stage and really gets into the song. Much different from his first time performing the song. I love his energy!

The song “Zero Gravity” became so popular at concerts among David’s fans, that Jive Records made the decision to allow David to release it to the public through i-Tunes, in a Fan Pack Bundle in the spring of 2009. Here is that studio recorded version. Make sure to turn up the volume for this one!

So the next time you need a little help getting yourself going, try listening to “Zero Gravity” . I know you will be jumping around and singing along with David in no time and before you know it, you will find the motivation you need to do whatever you have to! 😉

Take care all,
Katie
