David Archuleta’s name just keeps popping up all over the news these days. His effect is global: with his presence in Central America helping and inspiring young business entrepreneurs or his heartfelt suggestion to aid those in desperate need in the wake of the Haiti earthquake.

Many Christmas shows have been inspired by David Archuleta. Many of the songs he has sung on his Christmas Tour have been implemented into many of their repertoire.

SHIRLEY — The Shirley Touring Children’s Christmas Choir recently presented two concerts to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.

On the evening of Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Shirley Middle School, students Alexis Blackwell, Dylan Bourassa, Nasia Bykov, Kenna DeLong, Jillian Deshler, Hannah Doiron, Brooke Farley, Brianna Finnegan, Sydney Greeno, Jocelyn Hart, Michaela Hoffmann, Rebecca King, Riley Korhonen, Sydney Korhonen, Jeanne McCarron, Isabella Oliviera, Anna Pedreschi, Ashlyn Prehl, Raiven Quirk, and Hannah Wilkerson sang with the Shirley Community Adult Choir.

Members of the adult choir were: Ralph Bridges Gail Dolan, Marie Elwyn, Donna Ferriera, Lela Male, Ruth Maxant, Cindy McCarthy, Polly McGrath, Chris Olson, Emily Olson, John Rounds, Adele Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan and Wendy Welton.

The singing group “A Goodlie Companye”, featuring members Cheryl Hayden, Sheila Hunter, Bob Jacobs, Ann Jakiela, Dave Samanen, Diane Seiler, Larry Seiler and Div Slomin, joined them in the performance.

The event raised $725 for Loaves and Fishes, which feeds 400 families each week, and provides emergency shelter, resource referrals, and other temporary services for its clients.

Songs sung by the children’s choir included “Jingle Bell Hop” and “Reindeer Boogie.” The adult choir’s repertoire included “Riu, Riu, Chiu,” or “Nightingale’s Sounds,” a Spanish composition written [sic] by David Archuleta.

I am sure they meant Melodies of Christmas.

Selections sung by A Goodlie Companye, with help from the children’s choir, included the French Christmas carol “Pat-a-Pan,” and the Christmas spiritual “Have You Heard the Story?”

Back to the Oscar Mayer Joy, but Not the Jingles – NYTimes.com

This Sunday during the Golden Globes awards ceremony, live on NBC 8:00 EST, look for the new Oscar Mayer TV commercials. Specifically, listen to the tune, which was composed by Joy Williams, a Nashville singer-songwriter. We fans of David know who Joy Williams is! With David Hodges and Steven McMorran, Joy co-wrote “Waiting for Yesterday” for David Archuleta. The song was included as a bonus track on the iTunes Deluxe Edition of David’s self-titled debut album released on November 11, 2008.

Kudos to Joy Williams!

…McGarryBowen asked several musicians to compose songs, and settled on one from Joy Williams, a Nashville-based songwriter who has written for the American Idol contestants Mandisa and David Archuleta. She wrote what ended up being the tag line for the whole campaign, “It doesn’t get better than this.”

It sounds like a pop song one might hear on a light-FM station, wedged between Natasha Bedingfield and Ingrid Michaelson: “I’ve got everything I want right here right now, sun keeps shining like it won’t ever go down, oh it’s pure bliss, my world is brighter,” and so on into the sunshine.

The television commercials are scheduled to begin running during the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday. They show cheerful scenes from suburban life: a little girl giggling and pulling apart bologna in the backseat of a sport utility vehicle as her mother looks on affectionately; a working mother pulling toys out of her brown-bag lunch, then an Oscar Mayer premade sandwich, and calling her son to thank him for packing it; parents waking up their sleepy teenager with the smell of frying bacon.

Photo of the Week – Sensitive David Archuleta

Sensitive David Archuleta This picture makes me think of how ‘into’ his surroundings David is. He seems so comfortable in public, just being himself. Here he is twisting his tee at the shoulder—maybe to give himself a scratch or just twiddling with his ‘musical’ mind. And then the wonderful boyish side look is just adorable!

The Photo of the Week is…

Happy New Year, Honeybees!
